Friend, this class is for you. 😄
This beginner-friendly quilting course is designed to gently (and cheerfully) walk you through the basics of quilting, one small, confidence-boosting project at a time. No overwhelm. Quilting Language—Translated into Human
Quilting has… a lot of vocabulary. I’ll explain every term as it comes up, and you’ll also get a glossary to refer to anytime.
Some people like to read the glossary first.
Some people find that overwhelming.
Both are valid life choices. 💁♀️
You get to choose what works for your learning style.
What You’ll Learn (a.k.a. The Good Stuff)
In this class, you’ll learn:
- What quilting supplies you actually need (and what can wait)
- How to cut fabric accurately (without holding your breath)
- How to sew pieces together so they behave
- How quilting works from start to finish
And most importantly—you’ll finish projects. Real ones. Not “someday” ones.
The Projects (Small, Mighty, and Very Satisfying)
You’ll create two small quilts, each made from a single block. These blocks are wonderfully versatile and can become:
-
A mini quilt (perfect for walls, tables, or doll beds)
-
A pillow cover
-
Or the start of something bigger, if you’re feeling ambitious
Small projects = quick wins.
Quick wins = confidence.
Confidence = “I might be a quilter now?” ✨
Project 1: Appliqué with a Tropical Twist
We’ll start with appliqué, using a Monstera leaf inspired by traditional Hawaiian appliqué quilts. I’ll explain:
-
What appliqué is
-
Why it’s not scary
-
Exactly how to do it, step by step
Project 2: The Classic Nine Patch
Next up is the beloved Nine Patch block—a beginner favorite made from nine squares arranged in a checkerboard pattern.
You’ll learn:
-
How to work with light and dark fabrics
-
How to match seams
-
How to “nest” seam allowances (yes, I explain that too)

By the End of This Course…
You’ll understand how quilting works, feel comfortable with the basics, and be ready to tackle any quilting pattern that catches your eye next.
Plus, you’ll have finished projects to prove it.
And possibly a strong desire to pet fabric at the quilt shop. (Normal side effect.)
Want to Go Bigger?
You Can (But You Don’t Have To)
If you fall in love (many do), either main project can be expanded:
-
Make 3–5 blocks for a table runner
-
Or keep going for a larger quilt later
That said, I highly recommend starting small. Smaller projects mean:
-
Faster finishes
-
Less frustration
-
More “I DID THAT!” moments
Bonus Projects (Because You’re on a Roll)
Once you’ve got the basics down, we’ll keep building skills with:
- Fence Rail Pinwheel – rectangles that spin into a pinwheel design
-
Maple Leaf block – a classic motif that stretches your skills just a bit more
